In SAP a phantom item is a sublevel item inside a BOM that doesn’t actually exist the inventory. It’s purpose is to simplify the BOM, so even though the phantom item shows in the BOM, the components that make it up appear in the Production Order.

- Only a Production BOM can have a phantom item
