A quantity of material or substances that is intended to have uniform quality and character and is produced according to the requirements in a single manufacturing order during the same cycle under the same production conditions.
A batch or lot is expected to be homogenous within specified limits. The size of a batch may be defined by a fixed quantity or by the material that was produced within a fixed time interval.
In some regions, lots are considered to be subsets of a batch and are generally assigned an additional lot number that includes the original batch number. In other regions, only the word “lot” is used and has exactly the same meaning as the word “batch”.
